Creating Elastic and Clear Skin
Have you noticed rough patches on your face, tightness, or redness in your cheeks? Many
individuals who visit me for skin troubles are often unaware that they are inadvertently
damaging their skin due to common misconceptions and improper practices. It’s all too easy to
be lured by advertisements promising miraculous results in just 14 days or to mindlessly follow a
YouTuber’s skincare routine, which can sometimes lead to more harm than good.
For example, during cleansing, many people tend to overdo it, using various cleansing products
and scrubs with the belief that they must remove every trace of makeup to prevent breakouts.
This often results in multiple applications of cleansers. Afterward, they feel compelled to layer
on numerous products—toners, essences, moisturizers, and even specialized night
creams—just to feel secure in their skincare routine.
It’s essential to remember that most reputable skincare brands utilize ingredients that are stable
and safe for over 48 hours on the skin. Therefore, a small amount of residue usually doesn’t
pose a significant issue. However, neglecting to cleanse for longer than 48 hours can lead to
irritation from dirt, dead skin cells, and leftover makeup residue. Cleansing twice a day is
generally sufficient, and avoiding excessive irritation is crucial for maintaining healthy skin.
For those with particularly sensitive skin or existing breakouts, it’s advisable to minimize the
number of products used. While many Korean skincare enthusiasts often employ an extensive
range of products, I personally recommend sticking to just two essentials after cleansing: a
serum and a moisturizer. Opt for a gentle, low-allergen cleanser with a pH of 5.5, which helps
protect sensitive skin. Maintaining this pH level supports the natural moisturizing factors
produced by the skin’s barrier, resulting in healthy, elastic, and clear skin.
In conclusion, simplifying your skincare routine while being mindful of product ingredients can
significantly improve your skin’s health. Prioritize gentle cleansing and hydration, and your skin
will thank you for it.
