How to Effectively Reduce Enlarged Pores and Blackheads: Modern Treatments and Daily Care
For many, enlarged pores have long been considered difficult to treat. However, with
advancements in laser treatments and collagen regeneration techniques, it's now possible to
significantly reduce pore size. Modern laser therapies, such as Pico, Fractional Laser and
Fractional Microneedle RF , are particularly effective. These treatments stimulate collagen
production, filling in the gaps between pores and smoothing out uneven skin texture.
Additionally, the new collagen improves skin elasticity, leading to firmer, healthier-looking skin.
Take, for example, a male client who had struggled with large pores due to teenage acne and
naturally oily skin. After three sessions of Fractional Laser, followed by two Fractional
Microneedle RF sessions, each spaced a month apart, his pore size was reduced by nearly half,
and his skin texture and tone showed noticeable improvement.
However, if you have acne-prone skin with enlarged pores, it’s crucial to address the acne first.
Even after successfully shrinking pores with laser treatments, excessive sebum production can
cause pores to widen again. This is especially true for areas like the nose and forehead, where
the skin has less tissue to support rapid collagen regeneration. For these areas, it’s best to
remove excess sebum promptly to prevent pores from enlarging.
Another common concern for those with oily skin is blackheads around the nose. Blackheads
form when excess oil clogs the pores and oxidizes upon exposure to air, turning dark.
Unfortunately, once blackheads appear, they’re difficult to remove through cleansing alone, and
they’re also hard to conceal with makeup.
In one case, a high school student visited our clinic with a red, inflamed nose. She had tried a
popular YouTube remedy for blackheads, but the overzealous approach led to contact
dermatitis and severe irritation. This example highlights the importance of gentle, consistent
care for blackhead-prone skin. Trying to eliminate blackheads quickly can lead to enlarged
pores and even permanent blood vessel damage.
Just as with any skincare routine, consistency is key. To effectively treat enlarged pores and
blackheads, it’s important to maintain a daily skincare regimen. Regular, non-irritating care is
the most reliable path to clear, smooth skin.
